Is Africa Ripe for Democracy?

In the early 2011, some African States had been rocked my huge demonstrations that led to the change of some regimes just in the name of democracy which one can say was directly imposed on those states by the westerners through the so called peaceful demonstration.

This has led to the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya who was brutally murdered, Gbagbo being blown away by France,  Mali and CAR among other states that saw their presidents being chased out of power.

From then up to now all these aforementioned states are being torn by war which the UN is struggling to cope with and we can see what some of these states have become today. Libya that was once a stable state, has become 21st century slaves hub and ISIS training camp

And Ghana that was once a country where people's security was guaranteed under J. J. Rawlings regime which we call dictatorial regime has now turned into a country where no one's security  is guaranteed under a full democracy that prevails now.

Were we really better off in Africa before the advent of democracy ?

As Africans, do we truly need democracy before we can move forward in Africa?  What is your take on this issue ?

  2. Aristotle taught that democracy will allow anyone to have power through election, which can bring into power incompetent people. I have always been of the view that Ghana, for instance wasn't ready for democracy. Considering the kind of people we are, perhaps we should have critically practiced a political system that will benefit all citizens.

  4. Mr Kwaku I am for ur view and Aristotle got the right meaning of this so called democracy. I am pretty sure Ghana would have gotten somewhere by this time if she had not embraced democracy. We should have adopted a different political system that benefit all of us

  7. We can only move forward as Africans if we change our way of thinking.

  8. Africa can never develop in anything if we don't break away from capitalist Europe and stop begging. Africa was too young for democracy and I can say, that's what's preventing Africa from developing.

  10. As for Ghana, all we need is the imprisonment of a few corrupt leaders and a committed & dedicated leader & we are good to go
