Can West African unity be achieved?

Some countries in ECOWAS are  campaigning for unity within the block through a single currency and open borders. But in my point of view, it's going to be difficult to achieve seeing the lack of co_operation withing the block regarding some heartbreaking issues in hand that I will like to share with you.
For over a decade now Nigeria  has been battling a terror group called Boko Haram that is costing the state millions of dollars and only a handful of states are helping combat it. This shows there can no be unity if all the states can't help out.
Coming back home, Ghana economy has been crippled by the collapsing of some banks that is creating a further high rate of unemployment and how many countries within this block really care about helping the country tackling this challenge? And if they care what is their plan to curb this appalling situation the banks are facing ?  None of them care.
Democracy is prevailing almost in every single state of the region except in my small country Togo which upon all the demonstration going on almost every day for about a year now  the government is yet to give in to what they people are demanding. If they want unity within the block why can't they help topple Gnassingbé dynasty?
What's your take on this issue?
